The project for the week of July 24 2018

The project for the week of July 24 2018
Webmaster 220 introduction to the project: This project incorporates html pop
up tags originally used by
https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Ezek37.15-28#footnote10
to do lookups on their site to the data in the table I have tacked on to the bottom of this blog post as an appendix. Next I chose three of them to swap out the link that takes you to the server and makes you look up the words or scriptures for actual info in html title: hard code. Hover over the below areas highlighted in yellow and find titles called"
"Acts 12:17" over an a footnote,
"Rom 1:1, 2 Pet 1:1, Jude 1" over a b footnote
"Or one piece of wood; also verses 17, 19, 20" over a 4 footnote
If you do not see any pop ups that say those things, you are probably using a mobile device and you need to enable web view or request desktop site and then try. Here is the snippit of code for the last title html code:

Dear brothers in Christ.
This Tuesday we will be going into James Chapter 3, discussing the tongue.
Just to bring us up to date, a short review of what is in Chapter 1
of James:
  1. Audience – Jews, 12 tribes scattered abroad (James 1:1, cp. Acts 8:1; Eze 37:15-28)     .
    .
James 1:1 Greeting 1 aJames, a servant1 of God and b of the Lord Jesus Christ, To cthe twelve tribes in dthe Dispersion: Greetings.https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.1
    Acts 8:1
Saul Ravages the Church And bSaul capproved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and dthey were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.  https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Acts8.1
    Eze 37:15-28

I Will Be Their God; They Shall Be My People
15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 z“Son of man, atake a stick 4 and write on it, ‘ForbJudah, and cthe people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For bJoseph (the stick of dEphraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’ 17 And ejoin them one to another into one stick, that fthey may become gone in your hand. 18 And when hyour people say to you, i‘Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’ 19 say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am about to take jthe stick of Joseph (that is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with him. And I will join with it the jstick of Judah,5 and kmake them one stick, gthat they may be one in my hand. 20 When the sticks on which you write are in your hand lbefore their eyes, 21 then say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, mI will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and mbring them to their own land. 22 And nI will make them one nation in the land, on othe mountains of Israel. And pone king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer qtwo nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms. 23 rThey shall not sdefile themselves anymore twith their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But uI will save them from all the backslidings6in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and vthey shall be my people, and I will be their God.
24 “My servant wDavid xshall be king over them, and they shall all have yone shepherd. zThey shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes. 25 aThey shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children’s children shall dwell there bforever, and David my servant shall be their prince cforever. 26 dI will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be ean everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land7 and fmultiply them, and will gset my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. 27 hMy dwelling place shall be with them, vand I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 28 Then ithe nations will know that jI am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when gmy sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Ezek37.15-28

  2. Trials

  1. For good from the Father – once approved as those who love Him we receive the Crown of Life, (James 1:2, 12; 1 Pet 1:6-7, 4:12-13,16);
James 1:2  Testing of Your Faith 2 Count it all joy, my brothers,2 when you meet trials of various kinds,https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.2
James 1:12  12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
    https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.12
    1
Peter 1:6–7    6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/1%20Pet%201.6-7

1 Peter 4:12–13 Suffering as a Christian 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/1%20Pet%204.12-13
1 Peter 4:16  16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
     https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/1%20Pet%204.16

  2. Trials from our own evil desires – (James 1:13-15; 1 Pet 4:14-15; See Jeremiah 2:17 and Jeremiah 4:18 – I like these two from Jeremiah because they clearly state that the issues they have they brought on themselves.
James 1:13–15  13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.13%E2%80%9315
1 Peter 4:14–15 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/1%20Pet%204.14-15.
Jeremiah 2:17   17  Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God, when he led you in the way? https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Jer%202.17

Jeremiah 4:18   18 Your ways and your deeds have brought this upon you. This is your doom, and it is bitter; it has reached your very heart.”https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Jer%204.18

  1. Wisdom – James 1:5-8 We see a number of subjects here:
  1. V5 – Generous* God - He will give without rebuking
James 1:5   5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.5   See also the footnote below

  2. V6 – 8 Single mindedness – no doubting or looking for plan B. James 1:1-8  from Wuest:
But let him be presenting his request in a trusting attitude, not in an expression of that hesitation which vacillates [between faith and unbelief and inclines toward unbelief], for the person who vacillates [between faith and unbelief] is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for let not that individual be supposing that he shall receive anything from the presence of the Lord, [being] a dubious, undecided man, vacillating in all his ways.   https://biblia.com/bible/wuestnt/
    1. Poor and Rich – James 1:9-11

    2. James 1:9–11  9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.9-11

    • Poor have no other resources but to trust in God, they are rich in faith James 2:5 and will inherit the Kingdom;

    • Rich, here and in James 2:6-7 are against the believers and even slander the name of Jesus.

    •  James 2:6–7 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?  https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%202.6-7

    •   Sin – James 1:13-15, Sin gives birth to death.

    • James 1:13–15 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.13-15

    • The Fathers Love – James 1:17-18, this is amazing to me brothers, here in these verses we see God, Creator of heaven and earth the one who chose to give us birth by giving us His True Word, Jesus Christ with one purpose, to transform us into the image of His Son – Romans 8:26-39. This is the only way for Him to get us out from under the wrath of God, () was by placing us in His Son, (Col 3:1-4).

    •  James 1:17–18  17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.4 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.17-18

    • Romans 8:26–39
    • 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For bwe do not know what to pray for as we ought, but cthe Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And dhe who searches hearts knows what is ethe mind of the Spirit, because7 the Spirit fintercedes for the saints gaccording to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together hfor good,8 for ithose who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he jforeknew he also kpredestined lto be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be mthe firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also njustified, and those whom he justified he also oglorified.

    • God’s Everlasting Love

    • 31 What then shall we say to these things? pIf God is for us, who can be9 against us? 32 qHe who did not spare his own Son but rgave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? sIt is God who justifies. 34 tWho is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—uwho is at the right hand of God, vwho indeed is interceding for us.10 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

    • w“For your sake xwe are being killed all the day long;

    • we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

    • 37 No, in all these things we are more than yconquerors through zhim who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Rom%208.26-39

    • Colossians 3:1–4  Put On the New Self 3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/Col%203.1-4

    • Human angry and Gods righteousness – James 1:19-21

      •  James 1:19–21 Hearing and Doing the Word 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.19-21

      • Don’t forget who you are – James 1:22-25

      • James 1:22–25 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James 1.22-25

        • The tongue/Pure religion – James 1:26

        1. James 1:26 26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. https://bible.faithlife.com/bible/esv/James%201.26

Looking forward to Tuesday.....as usual, bring your thoughts, ideas and questions for discussion.
